What was He Seeking?

What was he seeking,
when he chased after all those girls back then?
Was he looking for one to replace his mother
or trying to fill a void?
Could there been a hurt so deep that he
thought pretty girls would fix it?
What is it about sex that
entice, entangle, engulf guys so much?
Is it that they are programmed from a young age
to think of women as an object
to be looked at, used, and thought of as pleasure?
Where did this start and,
how do we make it end?

In the garden it began,
When Eve disobeyed God.
When God cursed Eve and her offspring,
taking away the perfection that was promised,
making child bearing painful,
allowing Satan to roam free.
Satan whispered to Eve,
as he whispered to us,
nudging us towards a life of sin;
wanting us to waste away in pleasures
that do not satisfy,
so we seek more and more,
until we are in ruins.

However,
there is one who saves.
One who can
take it all away.

“God gave His only begotten son,
so whoever believes in him shall not parish,
but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

Jesus paid four our sins,
On the cross,
With his life,
in full,
so that all our sins
could be forgiven.

But we must ask for forgiveness
By confessing with our mouth,
and repenting our behavior.
Although, sometimes we need help,
and we ask others to pray with us;
allowing God to move within us,
opening up the deep wounds,
and healing us completely.
Reclaiming our souls,
making them pure.

We feel cleansed from the inside out,
and our lives improve dramatically.

Suddenly, things are just better for us.
Suddenly, it seems silly to not forgive.

As long as God holds our hearts
and we obey His commands,
Satan will be unable to touch us.
His influence will have worn off
and continue to do so,
as long as we stand firm in temptation,
and pass our test.

The more we love God and focus on Him,
the less we will desire what is in the world,
and we won’t feel the need to chase
all those pretty girls.

Beware of False Prophets

“For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect.” Matthew 24:24

God has revealed something astounding to me today. He revealed to me that I have been following the teaching of false prophets. You may have seen them, and I have mention one in my earlier blog posts. I thought what I was hearing was good, but it was not. I thought it was good that my one year old son liked to watch her on television, but it was not. You see, false prophets twist the words of the Gospel to fit their own agenda. They are very popular and some of my friends and a family member, I am sad to say, teach and follow her agenda. The main problem is that, the verses are taken out of context to apply that teaching to us, as though we are “mini gods”. Everything in The Bible points us to Christ, and away from our own selfish desires. I hope I have not taken bible verses out of context in my own blog to apply it to whatever point I am trying to convey. I do not intend to be a false prophet.

Just to be clear, I started this blog with a nudge from God to minister since 2009. I made choices between the time God nudged me, to a few months before I began to write, that I believe, that some choices that I had made, are lessons in which He intends for me to use. The lesson are those that I have learned and grown from, and have become closer to God in my times of adversity and trial. I always pray about what to write, and I only write what God has put heavily on my heart. For days or just hours before the blog post is written, I am studying, learning, and listening to God’s word, in The Bible and in prayer.

When you study, interpret, and share scripture, there are three things that you need to check off your list:

1. You pray first.

2. You seek and apply the full context.

3. You realize that God has made a body of believers.

• Each are equipped with their own spiritual gifts, and you should not rely only on what your interpretation of The Bible is. This is why God has equipped pastors and for believers form small groups, or a group of Christian friends to talk to.

 

What I am not saying is that every single word out of a believer’s mouth is false teaching or is it said on purpose, but when a teacher absolutely believes what they say is true, even when it goes against everything taught in the bible, then they are teaching falsely. Always look up the scripture, and when something feels off, when the person teaching is praised higher than God, when God gets pushed out of the picture, then note, that they are teaching lies, and there could be hidden messages of Satanism coming out of them. In other words Satan holds their heart, not God. God has been pushed out, and Satan has been invited in. When they refuse to answer simple questions about Demons, Satan, Hell, and if they are not clear that Jesus is the only path to The Father, as well as, promoting the self, then they are a false prophet and cannot and should not be followed, but they are an abomination to God.

Shun Evil

“Fear the Lord and Shun Evil”

Last weekend was Halloween, and how many of you are feeling the lingering sting of the evil one? We watched scary Halloween movies all weekend, no big deal, right? Wrong. The evil one has been attacking me and my family in subtle ways all week. For example, I have not slept a wink at night since Sunday night. The Lord says this is how we should sleep, “24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid: when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or the ruin that over takes the wicked, 26 For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep you from being snared.” Proverbs 3: 24 – 26 That is not how I slept.

It is not that I didn’t pray or put on Joyce Meyer Ministries, or do all the things I usually do, it is that we gave the devil a foothold, and he used it. Being too tired from not sleeping, meant that, my blog did not get written earlier this week, and I started to feel like a failure because of it. Only the devil can make you feel worthless and trick others into thinking that you are worthless too. This trick worked so well, that my husband and I were not thinking very highly of each other, and that resulted in a type of fight we have not had in over a month. It doesn’t matter how often you tell them how that you love and appreciate everything they do, if the devil has a foothold, none of that will matter. Everything that was forgiven, is suddenly not forgiven, and if a shaky topic is brought up, just count on everything crashing down again, because, “If you give a mouse a cookie, he will ask for a glass of milk,” (Laura Joffe Numeroff). Just as if you give the devil a foothold, he will ask for your heart, and then he will crush it.

The Lord will never crush your heart. He will heal it and provide you safety. Also, He won’t stop there. He will heal the hearts of those you love, and provide a safe harbor.

“5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3: 5-10

Dear God, help us to shun the devil, demons, and all kinds of evil. May we rebuke them in your name. May you help us to fight off the evil one, before he attacks our heart and the hearts of those we love. May we stand up, in your glory, and fight, and continue to follow your ways and your will until the evil one can touch us no more. In Jesus Name we Pray, Amen.

Is Halloween a Christian Holiday?

Tomorrow is Halloween or “All Hallows Eve”, and is it okay for Christians to celebrate it? After reading about it, and what I have concurred, Halloween has Pagan and Christian origins. Pagan in the way that the ancient Celts’ last day of the year was on October 31st, and they would bring in all their livestock as a way of getting ready for the upcoming winter. October 31st marked the end of summer and was commemorated with a festival called Samhain (‘sow-ane’). The next day, the winter season began. The way they celebrated their Samhain festival or “Summer’s End” festival, is much like spring cleaning in today’s modern context, “it mostly involved eating a lot, cleaning the household, extinguishing the hearth fires and restarting them in a gesture of renewal, commemorating those who had passed away during the year, and dancing around a communal bonfire.” (Sandy Love, the True History of Halloween).

Furthermore, the day of Samhain was a day in limbo, that it was neither the old year nor the new year, so with much superstition about the changing of the seasons there was the belief there were spirits wondering about, like fairies and ghosts. Therefore, to counteract that, the ancient Celts would dress up in costumes, make loud noises, and parade the streets. This is where the “evil” side of Halloween came from.

The Christian part of the History of Halloween comes from the Roman Catholic Church in 800 AD. In an attempt to combine all three festivals into one, they combined Feralia and Pomona’s Day with Samhain. “Pomona’s Day was originally a harvest festival in honor of the Roman goddess of fruits and trees; this may explain the tradition of bobbing for apples. Feralia was a day for mourning and remembering the dead,” (Love). Therefore, with all these festivals combined into one, it is a no brainer that people felt the need to dress up. All saints day, November 1st, began at sunset the night before. In order to scare away the evil spirits, that the Celtics said were there, people would dress up as Saints to commemorate “All Saint’s Day” also known as “All Hallows Day”. ‘Hallo’ is a word which means ‘Holy’ and ‘ween’ means ‘eve,’ and soon the phrase became known as ‘Halloween’. “A later custom developed where people would go door-to-door on Nov. 2 requesting small cakes in exchange for the promise of saying prayers for some of the dead relatives of each house. This arose out of the religious belief that the dead were in a state of limbo before they went to Heaven or Hell and that the prayers of the living could influence the outcome,” (Matt Slick, Where did Halloween Come From? Can a Christian Celebrate it?) This is an interesting thought, this might be where Tick-or-Treating came from.

All-in-all, hiding from the dead or praying for the dead has been a part of the Halloween tradition for centuries. Whether or not you decide to pray on Halloween or participate in its festivities that is up to you, just remember:

“10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD…” Deuteronomy 18:10-12

Pure in Heart

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Matthew 5:8

Tomorrow is my son’s first birthday. Would you like to know what my prayers for him have been for the last year, and while he was in my womb? I would pray that he would grow up loving Christ above all else and that he would grow up with a pure heart. That he would respect and honor women and girls, and have no interest in them expect for their friendship or when he meets the one. As well as, he grows up to his fullest potential in Christ, to be the man that Christ designed him to be, doing whatever is God’s will. This is my prayer for my son.

Purity is a big part of the Christian life, and with the way people are becoming so lax with what is being put out there by the media, and by everyday people, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep one’s mind on Christ and to keep one’s thoughts clean.

“14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-16.

God has created each and every one of us in His OWN Image. He desires us to live as clean lives as possible. He wants us to constantly renew our minds by reading and meditating on His word.

In an effort to help with this ever-growing problem of impurity, the modesty movement has been developing and growing rapidly. However, anything good is always outshone by anything bad, and with that, the movement has not gotten the spotlight that it deserves. By spotlight I do not mean, total media coverage, I mean just enough attention to give Christians a touch of hope in our fallen world. Although, while the modesty movement is good, and I am all for it, I just hope it does not forget to tackle the inner issues, the ones that God truly cares about. The issues of the heart.

Modesty is not just for girls, but for boys as well, because a girl can cover up her body, head to toe, and a guy will still have impure thoughts about the woman. The real issue is not of how much a woman covers up, but the perception of women and girls overall. The fact that we live in a fallen world is no secret, but demanding change in the media is a step closer to the goal of humanizing females again.

This can be done through fasting and prayer. God will listen to those who give something up, just to be closer to Him. Christian have been anointed, as it was written in the book of Isaiah:

The Year of the LORD’S Favor

61 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,
To proclaim freedom for the captives

There is still hope for purity in, not only our own selves, but in our nation. Many believe that we are too far away from turning back, as individuals and as a nation, or that God is ignoring us, and there is no hope, but no matter what, never stop believing in hope. There is still hope, in you and in our nation.

Be a Prayer Warrior
For Committed Relationships

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

Becoming a prayer warrior is not easy. It is easy to be angry, and quick to blame, but it is not easy to forgive and ask God to take over. As with anger, a person has to put on their full armor of God. “14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 14 – 17

Praying for God to intervene in a situation, especially, one as complicated as a committed relationship/ marriage, is going to take time. Being a good prayer warrior for your situation requires a person to ask God for forgiveness and to never cease in prayer. I have noticed that in my situation, when I cease in prayer, things tend to begin to fall apart, just a hair. When I am too self-centered to let God be God that is the moment when God proves to me, once again, that I cannot fix this on my own. God is telling me, that if I do not hand everything over to Him, time and time again, that He will allow it to crumble a little bit, just as a reminder to give it back to Him.

As Christians, God has given us the ability  to preserve through trials and tribulations. He wants us to use the gifts that He has provided for us to help others to become the Christian they truly are. There are times when two people will marry who seem to be unequally yoked. However, to God, they are a perfect match for one another, but it will not be seen until both parties are true Christians and rely fully on God. But, when one person is not living up to their true Christian potential, it really does cause many problems in their relationship. This is why, the one closer to Christ needs to pray unceasingly. Because no matter what happened in the past, God wants them to get past it, forgive each other, and place God at the forefront of their marriage. Once this is the case, the couple can and will get past their past hurts and stop hurting each other in the present. They will finally begin to feel as one, the way God has intended marriage to feel, as it was written in Genesis.

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[a] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[b] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[c] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” Genesis 2: 18-24

Only God can get us there, because He created the concept. No two people will feel closer to one another, unless God is in their relationship.
Another thing a good prayer warrior does is ask others to pray with them and over their situation. “20For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20 God knows that there is strength in numbers, and with more people gathered to pray about your situation, then great things begin to happen. For me, God has begun to place people in my life, whom I would have never had met without His grace. This small family has been through the same situation that I have been struggling with, and they have provided me with hope. Hope, not only for my situation, but for my overall happiness. This kind of hope has given me more faith that my situation will improve and that God is answering my prayers.

I pray for whatever situation you might be facing today, that God is already working, and that you do not give up. I banish the darkness that is set before you and ask that Jesus shine is light over you, bless you and give you grace.

Anger

26 “In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.”
Ephesians 4: 26-31

In those short and uncontrollable moments, how do we do that? If anger, even in private is so bad, how do we not lash out with our tongues, yelling something horrible, and hitting something to help release our tension? What can we do, in that moment, to not sin? I’m sure if we ask God, He will give us a hint.
First off, God says, in the first of the passage above, “In your anger do not sin, do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foot hold.” A person can be angry, but the sin that comes out of a person’s mouth while in that moment, are the devil’s play things. The person has fallen into the devil’s trap, and if they do not get a hold of themselves, then the devil has just gotten his way with them. God does not mind if they are angry, He minds if a person sins while they are angry. He just wants to warn people, that simply by sinning while a person is angry, they are doing nothing but making the situation worse for them self.

Let us put this in perspective. I have a problem with anger and sinning, and I was not always like this. Ever since I became a new mom, my sleep schedule has gone to trash, and I was never really a morning person as it was. Now, if my husband does not get up to retrieve our crying son, I have to, and he does not just wake up when everybody is ready to wake-up. No, he wakes us up out of mid-sleep, morning after morning. This gets very frustrating after a while, and while I can’t see past the end of my nose in the morning, I have to get my half-asleep self up out of bed, and feed my son. Sometimes, I say things I shouldn’t, and my husband calls me out on it, even though I do not mean a word of it, but mostly I just complain about him waking up in the morning, and I shouldn’t. My son is a blessing, and I’m being nothing but selfish, and ungrateful for the true blessing God gave me. God gave us our son when my husband and I were having problems during our engagement. It was God who got us through the tough times, and gave us the glue to hold us together. I should be praising God every morning for how many times and all the ways he saved my relationship with my husband. We had broken up many times before he asked me for my hand. Sinning while angry does nothing but bring about fights, misery, guilt, and more sin. I bet you never knew a little bad word could lead to so much horrible, horrible stuff.

How do we work past this? One could start with taking a breath before the bad words fall out. However, the only thing we can really do is to prepare ourselves for the next time we get angry, is to hang out with God. Asking God to change our hearts and studying His word, are our tools for the next time anger arises in us.

“10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the Devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6: 10 – 12

So, what is the armor of God?

“14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place…”

When talking with one another, do not lie or deceive or trick the person. This only causes the person to not trust you, especially if the lie is learned of. Always remember that you are God’s child, and that He will take care of it if you trust Him.
“ 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”

Take comfort in knowing that God knows all, sees everything, and is everywhere. He knows what His plans are for you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, mind, and soul. He will never give you more than you can handle.

“16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

Know that God is fighting right there along side of you. He will never leave you in a fight, and, sometimes, He will even carry you through.

“17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 14 – 17

If you have given your life to Jesus, God already has great plans for you on Earth and in heaven. Pray that God’s words will speak through you, and pray that you will trust The Word as your guide in any argument.
There seems to be a lot of trusting going on here. Sometimes, it is very difficult to give up complete control and allow God to be God. But, I promise you that His Blessings are greater than what you can see right now. I know it has to be true, because we are down sizing, and starting on a five year plan, before we can take the next step, and God can bless us for our future plans.

I pray that we can trust in God, no matter what, and give up control, so that He can bless us. In Jesus name, Amen.

The Beginning

     “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.” John 1:1-2

Growing up, I was not a Christian. I did not know who Jesus is or what on earth God is. My parents taught me values and responsibilities well enough, but I knew there was something missing; something more than doing the chores that were teaching me responsibilities and values. During my childhood, my older sister sent me a card, a card which I have kept for all these years, because its message gave me great comfort as a small child. It is set up like a book with pages containing illustrations of God and a flock of sheep. The card tells the story of how much God loves every sheep in His flock. That flock symbolizes the love He has for you and me, and that is the part I understood the best. That was the type of love I wanted to find.

So, throughout the years, I tired different things, like when my older sister, the one who sent me the card, invited me and, my eighteen month older brother, to a week long church camp, with a circus theme. We learned some, and we were given the New Testament to take home and study. Then, in the sixth grade I met a girl, and she took me to a service at her church, once, but I was so scared by the time it was over, because there were people rolling around all over the aisle, while others were shouting in different languages, that I just could not go back. I’m never going to forget that. After that, I gave the whole knowing God thing a rest for a little over two years.

It wasn’t until I was 14 years old, when I began to know and love Jesus. That was my freshman year of high school, when my brother’s best friend was invited to play as drummer for a local church’s brand new praise band, and he asked my brother if he would like to play the base guitar for the band. These two had been best friends since they were in the sixth grade, and have played in bands they put together themselves, the high school jazz band, the school orchestras, marching band, and college jazz band. They have gotten ones as scores in their UIL competitions at school, and were very well known throughout their junior high and high school careers. I’d say, with their genus brains and talents, that they did alright, but back to how I accepted Jesus Christ.

My brother was invited to play in the church praise band, and he accepted. Therefore, every Sunday my mom would take him to church, while the rest of the family, my dad, another older brother, (this one six years older than me, and four years older than my praise band brother), and I stayed home. Although, nearing the end of the school year, I asked my mom if I could also go to church. Immediately, my heart, mind and soul was captivated by the praise music my brother was taking part to bless us with.

Not long after I was accepting Jesus into my heart, but I do not remember on what day nor the moment I said the silent prayer. A few of my fellow church family says that they saw me glowing after I returned from church camp in the summer of 2008. Maybe that is when I really saw, felt, and understood the love of Jesus, or maybe that was when I accepted Jesus into my heart. Either way, He’s in there, and the journey, well, that is something I will tell you about throughout my blogs. I will tell you, that without years of building a strong foundation in Jesus Christ, that it is very easy to get lost, and head in the wrong direction, when you think you are going in the right direction. So, if you get lost along the way, I won’t hound you, because I got lost too. It is nothing to be ashamed about. How about if we support each other along the way to a firm, unbreakable, foundation in Christ? It won’t be easy, but faith can take us places that we never dreamed of.

Throughout my blog, we will work through tough moral questions that society is completely shutting out. Strong in our faith, and wise in our beliefs, we can lead the Nation, and then the world back to the strong values that are presented in the Bible that we need to follow. Why do I want you to follow more rules, you may be wondering. Well, it is not that I am trying to be your guardian, but a messenger of God, and the greater your belief in Him, the more you will enjoy His presence and the less you will want the presence of worldly things.
Let’s start in the Gospel of John:

“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. 2 He was with God from the beginning.” John 1: 1-2

God was with us in the womb. He was with us before we were even conceived. God created all of us, in His image, when he created the world. Each of us were born into the world at the exact moment He planned in His undoubtedly perfect plan. We are loved, so loved:

“16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal live. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17

God is love, and he loves you. He wants to give you eternity in the kingdom. What is greater than this? Nothing! Nothing on earth is greater, nor more important than this.

This is why I must share the gospel with you.
